Editorial policy

Home Access Lab publishes original educational calculators and guides for planning U.S. home modifications. The project is responsible for its formulas, wording, source links, translations, and corrections. It does not claim that an architect, engineer, occupational therapist, clinician, contractor, attorney, or government agency has reviewed or endorsed the site.

Source hierarchy

For laws, public programs, design standards, and eligibility rules, we start with the agency that administers or enforces the subject. Current examples include the U.S. Department of Justice ADA Standards, HUD disability and housing resources, and the Administration for Community Living. We use official technical guidance to explain a rule, while keeping the controlling agency page visible.

ADA dimensions are reference material, not automatic code requirements for every private home. The applicable federal, state, local, program, lease, and permit rules must be verified for the specific property. Construction prices and product allowances are site-authored planning assumptions—not contractor bids, a proprietary price database, or guaranteed market quotes.

Calculator and guide review

• Every calculator identifies its inputs, calculation structure, interpretation, and important exclusions.
• Rule, program, or source changes require an effective date and jurisdiction before we change a numeric assumption.
• Material formula or route changes receive automated regression checks before a release is prepared.
• English and Spanish pages are reviewed for the same conclusion, limitation, and official-source destination; a translation is not treated as an independent source.
• Review dates describe an actual source or content check. They are not changed merely to make a page appear fresh.

Safety and scope

We do not assess a person, diagnose conditions, prescribe equipment, certify designs, determine code compliance, select a contractor, or guarantee funding. Medical and functional questions belong with the appropriate licensed clinician. Design, structural, electrical, plumbing, code, permit, product, and site-condition questions belong with qualified local professionals and authorities.

Corrections and change log

When a material error is confirmed, we update the affected statement or formula, its visible review date, and the relevant regression check. The change log states what changed and whether calculated outputs were affected. Home Access Lab does not currently provide a correction form or reporting mailbox and does not claim to accept visitor submissions.

Do not send names, addresses, medical information, disability details, benefit identifiers, contractor documents, account numbers, or other personal information to the site. A future correction channel will require a separate privacy and retention review before activation.

Advertising independence

Advertising and affiliate relationships do not determine calculator formulas, guide conclusions, source selection, or whether a correction is made. Paid relationships must be labeled near the relevant placement. We do not sell placement inside calculator results or accept payment to conceal a limitation.
